‘Max would have won anyway’: Ted Kravitz and Will Buxton rubbish the conspiracy theories around Max Verstappen’s Dutch GP win

Max Verstappen won on home soil for the second year running and extended his already comfortable lead to 109 points in the driver’s championship over Charles Leclerc. But, the Dutch GP wasn’t as simple and straightforward as the win in Belgium. At Spa, the reigning world champion was in a league of his own as he came back from P14 on the grid to win the ninth race of an impressive season.

It was vividly evident from the get go that it would be difficult for Red Bull to emulate the heroics of Spa at Zandvoort. A track with high downforce was expected to suit Ferrari and Mercedes more than Red Bull. Therefore, it was down to getting the set up of the car spot on. It was Ferrari that were expected to give Red Bull a run for their money but Mercedes, to everyone’s surprise, looked better suited to challenge for the win.

The Silver Arrows were on a different strategy and looked on course to fight it out for the win with Max Verstappen before Yuki Tsunoda’s weird retirement brought out the Virtual Safety Car (VSC). Mercedes suffered a big blow as Max Verstappen got a cheap pit stop. This, in turn, meant that Lewis Hamilton and George Russell had to do it all again against a much faster Max Verstappen.

“There is no upside for AlphaTauri helping Max Verstappen win the race“: Ted Kravitz and Will Buxton dismiss speculations

There have been conspiracy theories which have surrounded Max Verstappen’s win as AlphaTauri is Red Bull’s sister team. But, Ted Kravitz and Will Buxton have shown support to Max. Ted, post race, said, “There is no upside for AlphaTauri helping Max win the race because they have already won the constructors and drivers. I’m trying to dispel the conspiracy theories by everyone. He [Max] would have won anyway.”

Will Buxton shared the same sentiment when he said, “Alpha Tauri’s 5 points off Haas and have scored once in the past 7 races. Why would they sacrifice the driver who looked most likely to score?”

“If he was trying to disrupt the race why did he stop directly by a marshal post and exit road? Sometimes folks need to engage their brain.”

Speculations are bound to arise when Red Bull gets some assistance from its sister team during a race. But, Max Verstappen, in all likeliness, would have won the race, anyway. The reigning world champion was by far the fastest driver on the track and would have chased down Lewis Hamilton after his 2nd and final pitstop in an ideal situation.
