Mercedes all set to sustain crushing blow from Ferrari as their key staff member leaves for Maranello

With the results that the Scuderia Ferrari team have shown in the recent races, Ferrari team manager Federic Vasseur, they have already begun designing the car for the following season because they cannot afford to fall farther behind Red Bull. According to reports, Ferrari is planning to hire Mercedes‘ performance director Loic Serra, which could be a devastating blow to people like Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff.

The Italian squad has reportedly been searching for new employees after a number of key players moved to other teams on the grid in recent months. Although it is rumoured that negotiations to formalise the parameters of the agreement are still ongoing, it is anticipated that after 15 years with the Silver Arrows, Serra would eventually defect to Ferrari. He is anticipated to uphold the remainder of his contract with Mercedes, which means he cannot start working for Ferrari for another two years. He is still under contract with Mercedes till 2025.

Serra, who has committed to join the Maranello team from Mercedes following the expiration of his current contract, is expected to join the team as a response, according to Formu1a.uno. Serra’s upcoming departure was announced  shortly after Ferrari’s long-term goals were reported to have been helped by the signing of a “top guy,” according to Frederic Vasseur, who told Marca: “We know that if we want to recruit, we are speaking not in days,  we are speaking in years.”

Poaching of Engineers and Staffs are not new in Formula 1 with teams offering better contracts to rival team staffs and buying talents and knowledge that comes with them. The Biggest name so far has been Aston Martin with the team offering the staffs from Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari. The worse hit team in this poaching game has been Ferrari. With the team underperforming and getting itself in trouble, the engineers are leaving the team in search or better roles and pay elsewhere.

With the ever changing Budget cap it is becoming impossible for teams to bring new ground breaking upgrades to the car, so buying knowledge is the only option left for several teams. Still now FIA have not placed any ban or amendments on the transfer of knowledge and Engineers.
