Mercedes’s upgrade package for Imola will allegedly reveal what went wrong with the W14 : Toto Wolff
Mercedes F1 team boss Toto Wolff hopes to see an improvement in the team’s performance with their Imola upgrade.

Toto Wolff has been leading the charge at Mercedes for more than a decade now. Back when the 2014 rule change came into action, the Brackley based squad sprung to dominance and went on to win 8 consecutive constructors championships. However, after the 2021 season came to a dramatic end, the team hasn’t been able to get their desired results.
Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have not had the best start to the 2023 F1 season. After not being able to win a race all throughout 2022, Lewis has also been struggling this year. The Mercedes W14 has just been a copy of the unsuccessful W13 with a few tweaks. However, the no sidepod design has not given the team any substantial results.
Toto Wolff had previously stated that the team has not been able to understand what has gone wrong with the car’s design. However, there is hope for the Brackley based squad as the team is bringing in a new upgrade for the Imola GP. The Austrian thinks that this upgrade will be crucial for the squad to understand what has gone wrong with the car and make improvements in the long run.

Toto Wolff is a bit doubtful regarding the Imola upgrades

In an interview, here is what the Mercedes team boss had to say. “We need to manage our own expectations, because we’re bringing an update package that’s going to consist of new suspension parts, and bodywork and some other things,” he said. “But I have never in my 15 years in F1 seen a silver bullet being introduced, where suddenly you unlock half a second of performance. So, I very much doubt that this is going to happen here,” he continued.
“But what I’m looking forward to is that we take certain variables off the table, where we believe we could have introduced something that we don’t understand in the car,” he stated. “[I am hoping] we can go more to a stable platform, and then we should see where the baseline is and what we can do from there,” he concluded.
Mercedes struggled a lot during the 2023 Miami GP. After Lewis Hamilton and George Russell topped free practice, a lot of expectations arose for the duo. However, a disappointing qualifying and a sub-par race meant that the squad is nowhere near their goals. Nevertheless, with the introduction of their Imola upgrade, there is still hope for the Silver arrows.
