Mercedes has started the 2023 F1 season on the back foot compared to the front runners. The team has had two lackluster outings so far in the season, and its, Techincal director, Mike Elliott, has admitted that the Bahrain GP was a big reality check for the Brackley-based outfit. However, he has also made it known that the team is highly motivated to bounce back.
According to Elliott, the team is working round the clock in order to come up with solutions for the problems that Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have faced so far. While stressing on the same, he said, “Bahrain was a real reality check and to find ourselves in the position we find ourselves in, not being competitive, was a real disappointment. A disappointment for the whole team.”
“But you have to get yourself through that, and you have to turn that into what we are going to do about it. How are we going to bring the sort of energy and what we are capable of doing? How are we going to move ourselves forward? How are we going to get ourselves back in the fight?” Mike Eliott, on the one hand, has admitted to the shortcomings of the Mercedes team and, on the other, has raised many questions, the answers to which, the team is trying to find.
The Brackley-based team in Bahrain could not keep pace with the front runners. Moreover, they had no option but to witness the painful sight of Fernando Alonso getting breezing past Lewis Hamilton in an Aston Martin. It was very painful to watch for Mercedes and all its fans who support the German team wholeheartedly. The Brit ended his Bahrain exploits in a disappointing P5.

The Mercedes F1 team is hard at work in its factory
The Mercedes F1 team’s 2023 campaign has started in the same manner in which its last year’s campaign got underway. They were off the pace of Red Bull that year, and the same has happened again. The only difference is that the W14 has become even slower. The Red Bull F1 team, on the other hand, has produced a rocketship with its RB19.
While things are not looking very bright for Mercedes, Elliott has tried to put forward a better picture of the team by saying, “And actually, walking around the factory there is a huge amount of energy, there is a huge amount of work going on, we are starting to see some of the development come through already that is going to get us back into this championship fight. All we can do is just keep pushing. I’ve been really pleased to see the attitude in the team.”
Mike Elliott has revealed that Mercedes is doing everything possible to have a say in the Championship fight as soon as possible. The team has been putting in the hours at the factory and has already noticed some good developments. Considering how the 2023 season has panned out so far for the former giants of the sport, and what Elliott has said, would the Mercedes F1 team be seen fighting at the front end with the lights of Red Bull and Aston Martin in the upcoming races?
