The Aston Martin Formula 1 team has made a major step up during the ongoing 2023 campaign. Fernando Alonso has been doing a sensational job at the north end of the grid, but Lance Stroll, on the other hand, has had a dismal season, to say the least. But, despite this fact, Mike Krack has claimed that the Canadian is at the same level as that of the former 2-time F1 world champion.
The AMR23 has proved to be a highly potent car so far in the season, and Fernando Alonso has been able to extract the most out of it at pretty much every race weekend. This is one of the main reasons he is currently third in the Drivers Championship behind Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen.
However, Mike Krack believes while Alonso has done a magnificent job, Stroll has struggled with quite a few issues, and that has stopped him from performing at his teammate’s level consistently. While shedding light on the same, he told Formul1a.uno, “For us as a team, it is not really a problem.”
“Because, like you see in Hungary, he’s competitive. He’s on similar levels to Fernando. And I think you need not forget you have one of the greatest drivers of all time as your team-mate. This is not easy.” The Aston Martin Team Principal has wholeheartedly backed Stroll to deliver better performances in the remaining races of the season.
Lance Stroll has got a lot of catching up to do in 2023
While Mike Krack feels Lance Stroll can deliver Fernando Alonso-like performances consistently, the fact can not be ignored that the former has a lot of catching up to do if he is to finish the 2023 season anywhere near his teammate. As things stand, the Spanish maestro has bulldozed his way to 170 points in the Driver’s standings, whereas Stroll has only managed 47 points so far.
Moreover, Alonso has also scored a brilliant seven podium finishes in the same process. Considering all this, Krack’s comments seem baffling, and from the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix onward, the spotlight will be on both the Aston Martin Formula 1 drivers.
Lance Stroll, so far in his career at the pinnacle of motor racing, has shown on occasions what he can do behind the wheel of an F1 car, but his Achilles heel has been his consistency and sometimes decision-making. Eight races remain in the 2023 season, and he would look to end the campaign with a flurry of strong results.
