Lewis Hamilton put in a solid performance at the Monaco GP, starting sixth on the grid and finishing P4 on a track where getting past rivals is infamously difficult. His result was praised by all his fans, and football superstar Neymar Jr. happens to be one of his biggest fans and also his friend.

Despite their well-known friendship outside of their respective sports, Neymar, the Brazilian and PSG marquee footballer, appeared to be ignored by Lewis Hamilton at the Grand Prix. This surprising incident took place in the Monaco paddock, suggesting that their close bond wasn’t evident during the event. Neymar was in the middle of an interview with Sky Sports and sought to greet Hamilton.

He changed direction and directed his gaze towards Hamilton, who was riding a scooter from the opposite side. He attempted to communicate with the British driver, but Hamilton appeared to ignore him completely and continued riding along his way. The two participated in a banterous exchange on Instagram following this incident.

Hamilton shared the video and apologized to Neymar on social media, saying, “My bad, bro,” for not acknowledging him. Neymar responded with “F*** you,” with a smiling face with heart emoji next to it, accepting the apology lightheartedly. Despite fans interpreting the incident as a source of tension, the pair met up after the proceedings of the race weekend had concluded. They partied in the most exclusive club at the principality, exchanging heartwarming hugs, putting any speculation of a sour relationship to rest.

The British legend may have failed to acknowledge Neymar because he was focused on the race ahead of him. The streets of Monte Carlo give no quarter, where the margin for error is close to zero. In an otherwise dull race livened by rain on lap 53, the seven-time world champion brought home P4 for his team, narrowly being edged out by Esteban Ocon for the podium.

Hamilton expressed his belief that Mercedes has taken a step forward with their upgraded W14 after both cars achieved top-five finishes at the Monaco GP, surpassing Ferrari. The 38-year-old acknowledged the progress made by the team and seemed positive about the performance of the team’s improved car during the race.

The Spanish GP will provide a valuable opportunity for Mercedes to assess the effectiveness of their upgrades in a competitive setting. While the team will gain a better understanding of how the upgrades are performing during the upcoming race, Hamilton’s increased comfort with the drivability of the W14 is a big positive for the Silver Arrows.

He is still intent on winning his eighth world title, and a steady upward trajectory from the Brackley-based team will play a vital role in his chances of securing it. Breaking Red Bull’s domination is an uphill task, but the Briton and Mercedes are up for the challenge.
