The Formula 1 2024 season is just under a month away from commencement, and the Silly Season has begun. Lewis Hamilton made his shocking switch to Ferrari from 2025 onwards even before the 2024 season started. The seven-time world champion is already 39 years old and would potentially be in the sport for even longer than Fernando Alonso who is currently 42 years old.

Regardless of Hamilton’s age, Former F1 world champion Nigel Mansell highlighted that the Briton wouldn’t be too old to win the F1 title with Ferrari. Hamilton has already won the championship seven times under McLaren and Mercedes. However, with his final season at Mercedes, the team is highly positive of wanting the seven-time world champion to end his ultimate year at Brackley on a high. Additionally, Mansell recalled the championship that he won at 39.

People are saying Lewis is now too old, At 39? No. I won my championship at 39 and I could have gone on, but the politics got involved.
Mansell told BBC Sport.

Regardless, if Lewis Hamilton is motivated enough to score another championship under Maranello, he is definitely capable of doing so. Mansell resonated with this thought and added that the Briton was just ‘fantastic’. Additionally, the 70-year-old pointed out that the seven-time world champion had several more years left in the sport.

But Lewis, if he’s motivated, he’s got several, if not a lot more years left, I think it’s just fantastic.

Lewis Hamilton will end his career in Formula 1 with Ferrari

The 39-year-old has already secured a multi-year contract with Ferrari. Most likely, Hamilton will retire as a Ferrari driver in Formula 1. Apart from this, Mansell pointed out the same point and added that Ferrari would be everything for him. Additionally, the Briton highlighted that it was a ‘dream come true’ for Hamilton, so late in his career.

Apart from this, Damon Hill had also asserted that Hamilton had taken ‘more command’ over his career. The Ferrari move has been termed as a great move by multiple people present on the grid. Such a shocking move so late in his career would definitely be exciting for the Mercedes star henceforth.

Lewis Hamilton still has his ultimate year left at Mercedes before switching teams and shifting to the Italian constructor. Hence, the Briton will push himself to the limit maximize the result, and work on ending the season on a ‘high’. Time will tell about the benefits of pairing two great drivers in the same team, as Charles Leclerc would be teaming up with Lewis Hamilton.
