With the introduction of some new rules in the 2022 season of Formula 1, there have arisen a set of new problems that the racers are facing with their cars. And one of the biggest troubles that does not seem to go away right from the start of this year’s Formula 1 Championship is–porpoising. The issue of porpoising has plagued all the teams, but the Silver Arrows at the Mercedes garage has felt the biggest impact because of it.

Their car, the W13, is simply not equipped to handle porpoising, and thus it has made it difficult for George Russell and Lewis Hamilton to get some speed out of their Mercedes racecars.

In the Azerbaijan Grand Prix that happened in Baku last week, Lewis Hamilton was awfully affected due to the porpoising issue. His back endured severe pain as his car kept bouncing on its tyres, and the seven-time World Champion could barely make it out of his Mercedes W13 by the end of the race. While all the racers, barring a few like Fernando Alonso, have raised concerns against the issue of porpoising, the FiA is yet to shift its focus on that. And now, McLaren racer Daniel Ricciardo has also joined the force to urge the F1 authorities to take action and fix this porpoising trouble once and for all.

There have been some teams which have discovered the solution to the porpoising issue very quickly, but on the other hand, some haven’t. Teams like Red Bull and Haas are less bothered by this, while Mercedes is yet to find out how to correct this problem. Amidst all this, in last week’s Baku race, Lewis Hamilton complained of severe back pain due to the awful porpoising that he has to go through. Now, racers like Daniel Ricciardo have come out in support of Lewis to urge the FiA to intervene in this matter.

Daniel Ricciardo has said, “If that is up to a rule change, or the way the teams are setting up the cars, I am not 100 per cent sure. But I wouldn’t like anyone to go through any unnecessary injury or pain.

Daniel Ricciardo further continued, “We have spoken about it throughout the season, but with Baku being such a big one, I am sure it will get discussed in the drivers’ briefing on Friday.”
