“Not happy about performance,” Yuki Tsunoda gives concerning remarks after Franz Tost’s scathing comments on team engineers
Yuki Tsunoda has given his comments on the internal dynamics at AlphaTauri days after Franz Tost said he cannot trust his race engineers.
Last year, after the first three races of the 2022 season, the Scuderia AlphaTauri team seemed to be at a much better place than now, with Pierre Gasly bringing 10 points home in total. On the other hand, Yuki Tsunoda’s start to the campaign was not going that well, but overall, AlphaTauri seemed to display much stronger performance than their current condition. After Australia, the team that is helmed by Franz Tost and is famous for being a part of Red Bull’s sister squad, settled at the back of the grid in the ninth spot, only above Williams, as they have gathered a total score of only one point.
AlphaTauri team principal Franz Tost was understandably upset with their results, and he had a public meltdown at one of his interviews where he aimed his anger at the team engineers. Tost made scathing comments about his personnel, and even claimed that he cannot trust them to perform well for the sake of AlphaTauri. This has given rise to a lot of discussions on the F1 forums about the Faenza-based team, and it prompted Yuki Tsunoda to comment on what is going on inside the AlphaTauri headquarters.
Speaking to Motorsport.com about Franz Tost’s remarks, Yuki said, “Inside the team obviously, we’re not happy about performance, but at least we are staying always positive.” But despite the fact that his team members are not too happy, Tsunoda indicated that he is not too worried about his team failing to score points in the first few races of the year. The 2023 season has gotten 23 Grands Prix scheduled to take place, so the AlphaTauri duo of Tsunoda and the newcomer Nyck deVries will get more opportunities to prove their mettle.

Yuki Tsunoda assures that AlphaTauri knows what direction it needs to go for better results
Ever since Franz Tost’s comments on not being able to trust his race engineers, the F1 fans had been worried that there are some disruptions going on in the internal dynamics of AlphaTauri. But Yuki Tsunoda claimed that they are working round the clock to ensure the team can score more points. He said, “We’re quite happy with what we’ve done on the track side, we’ve almost extracted 100% of the performance from the car, which is the most important. And we’re clear on what direction we have to take for the development side as well.“
Judging from Yuki Tsunoda’s quotes on where AlphaTauri stands at this moment, it is quite clear that the team knows they have a lot to do. Meanwhile, their rivals Alfa Romeo and Haas have gotten more points in their baskets from the first three races, and are gearing up to introduce more upgrades in the upcoming Grands Prix. Now, it only remains to be seen how AlphaTauri manages to keep up with its competitors to get a better spot in the Constructors’ Championship table by the end of this year.
