Not winning Championships but ‘creating a consistent platform’ is Mercedes’ biggest goal for 2024, claims team boss Toto Wolff
The Austrian has been leading the team since joining it more than a decade ago.
Mercedes completed more than 350 laps of the Bahrain circuit during testing and is seen as one of the most mature cars of the lot. The team were found to be happy with the testing programs and the data collected throughout the three days. Subsequently, Toto Wolff has clearly defined the goals that he has set for the team for the upcoming season.
The team were quite a way off from the top of the charts in the number of laps completed throughout the testing days. However, the Silver Arrows were seen experimenting with different suspension configurations to test out the stability of its platform. Moreover, the team had increased anti-dive at both the front and rear, which correlates to more stability. Following such satisfactory experiments, the Austrian mentioned the goals in his mind that he has for the team.
Our main aim going into 2024 therefore was clear: create a consistent and stable platform. A car that would react as we expected. One that the drivers could consistently push. And one that we can develop throughout the year, in the knowledge that we are bringing real-world performance to the track.Toto Wolff said as reported by express.co.uk
The 52-year-old emphasized that the car doesn’t need to be blazing fast. However, a consistent and stable platform is the basic requirement that will allow the team to develop it around the season. Furthermore, a base level that will allow the drivers to push without being weary of the car’s conflicting characteristics.
What are Lewis Hamilton’s views on W15 after testing the car?
Lewis Hamilton is the star driver at the Brackley-based team. The team had a fairly successful venture while testing, and collected vital data to develop the car further. The seven-time champion has shared his views after driving the car.
We gathered lots of learnings about the W15, both in our long running and single lap work. We’ve clearly made an improvement with this year’s car and it’s much nicer to drive. A big thank you to everyone at [the factories in] Brackley and Brixworth for the efforts they’ve put in to deliver that over the past year. I’m really grateful for all their hard work.Lewis Hamilton said as reported by F1
Hamilton shared that the team had learnt a lot over the testing program. Previously, the Briton had been heard complaining about the cockpit being too ahead. Moreover, the Englishman is convinced that the W15 is an improvement over its predecessor and is more comfortable in the car.
The 39-year-old is getting ready to take on the heat to the top guns of Red Bull and Ferrari. The former champion would want to make his last dance with the German manufacturer a bit sweeter before moving to the prancing horses next year.
