Nyck de Vries was signed by Alpha Tauri for the 2023 F1 season. The Dutchman’s full-time debut was highly anticipated after his stellar driver as a stand-in at the 2022 Italian GP. Unfortunately, things have not gone well for the 28-year-old, with Nyck incurring multiple incidents. De Vries has finally spoken up on rumors at Alpha Tauri that suggest a replacement is on the cards for the Dutch driver.
The former Formula E champion was unsurprised by the ongoing speculation about his seat as he reckons it is a standard affair in F1. He said, “It’s not a shock to me”. The Dutch driver hit out at Red Bull for similarly dealing with young drivers in the past, as the energy drinks giant has been ruthless and arguably impatient in giving time to its F1 drivers.
Nyck de Vries said, “It’s always been like this in Red Bull and in Formula 1”. However, de Vries insists things are not so different than they were at the start of the year. The 28-year-old understands that he must perform to solidify his place on the grid. The Dutchman insists that he has faced such situations as he fought for survival in junior categories.

Nyck de Vries accepts his mistakes in the 2023 F1 season
The Dutch driver has been caught up in a few incidents this year. De Vries had a first-lap incident with McLaren’s Lando Norris in Miami, which was not appreciated by the British driver. Although, Nyck accepts his faults this year and is not shy of admitting that he has made too many mistakes in the first five rounds of the season.
On the other hand, Nyck insisted that he has been encouraged by some of his performances. The Dutch driver stands at the bottom of the points tally with zero points compared to teammate Yuki Tsunoda‘s 2 points. Alpha Tauri has fallen behind in the pecking order this season, further hampering the 28-year-old’s potential to bag decent results.
Thus, Nyck de Vries understands how rumors surfaced about his seat at Alpha Tauri. The 28-year-old will have to improve his performances soon, or else Alpha Tauri has already considered potential options. The Dutch driver is prepared to fight back and solidify his place on the Faenza-based team. However, it remains to be seen how things pan out in Monaco.
