“One of the best drivers in history”: Pedro de la Rosa full of praise for ‘special’ compatriot Fernando Alonso
Fernando Alonso
Fernando Alonso is considered to be one of the greatest of all time by the fans and has proved himself to be one of them as well. Even at 41, he’s still one of the best at his job. Alonso still does wonders on the race track with his performance and form. Although 2022 hasn’t been that kind to him, with all the engine failures and troubles he has had, Alonso has been great yet again.
Pedro de la Rosa, Alonso’s friend, opened up about his relationship with his fellow Spaniard and with the happiness of joining and being a part of Aston Martin’s next season together. Alonso decided to move on from Alpine to Aston Martin and so did de la Rosa at the same time, as a brand ambassador. de Rosa understands and appreciates the performance Alonso has shown over the years and still does.
Being in the ’40s and still being motivated to continue, de la Rosa takes his hat off for Alonso, as per RaceFans: “I’ve always said that Fernando is one of the best drivers in the history of Formula 1. He’s fully motivated, which is also a very, very, very important detail in the life of a Formula 1 driver, especially when you get to 40 years old.”
Pedro de la Rosa on his expectations from Fernando Alonso at Aston Martin
Sebastian Vettel’s retirement, which led to Fernando Alonso’s move to Aston Martin created a great domino effect. Alonso ultimately will drive for Aston Martin but this move has been criticized by all the fans for the pace and results the team have earlier shown this season, even if they have performed well in the last two weekends. But Pedro de la Rosa seems to be satisfied with Alonso’s decision.
de la Rosa said that both of them are happy that they’ll be together at the team: “I’m very excited, he knows that. To an extent, I think he’s also happy that I’m in the team. I think that if I’m here, it’s also because of him.”
He further explained: “So it makes me extremely proud that Aston Martin has called me and that they want me in the team, mainly because I have worked with these guys, with these people, and Fernando is one of them of course.”
Fernando Alonso currently is in a fight with the McLarens for the fourth in the championship. Alonso and his teammate are doing a pretty good job to stick to the fight, and their car is also superior, but Lando Norris has been doing his best, while Daniel Ricciardo has struggled once again. After losing P4 in Singapore, the French team regained it in Japan.
