“One of the issues of Red Bull is Helmut Marko’s salary”: Peter Windsor makes bombshell claim about budget cap allegations against Red Bull
Helmut Marko thinks that the postponement of the new technical directive is good, but that 'it's still too early'.
Recent news headlines in Formula One have all been about the complaints that the FIA have placed against Red Bull for violation of the budget cap which was established at the start of the 2021 season. While there is no clear notice about the amount by which the British team has exceeded the budget cap, the authoritative body that governs F1 has not even disclosed what punishment is awaiting the offenders in this regard.
There have been several speculations that the FIA might rule Max Verstappen’s first World Championship as erroneous since his team had violated a crucial code in the last season. But no concrete evidence suggesting the same has been made public yet.
Many fans have also been questioning how Red Bull could cross the budget that the other teams could so accurately adhere to. Teams like Mercedes and Ferrari, two of Red Bull’s biggest rivals, have also been asking about the penalties that the FIA are supposed to levy upon Red Bull and where the team spent all that extra money. And according to F1 journalist Peter Windsor, it was Helmut Marko’s salary that might have caused all the woes for Red Bull.
Peter Windsor dishes out important information about the updates in the cost cap violation case of Red Bull
All the journalists have been trying to get hold of some insider information about the updates in the cost cap scandal ever since the FIA confirmed Red Bull’s involvement in it. And now, Peter Windsor has broken the news that, most probably, it was the salary of the Milton-Keynes-based team’s Chief Advisor, Helmut Marko, that caused all the trouble for them. He said, “I understand one of those is the salary of one Dr Helmut Marko. If I’d guess, Marko is probably in the region of four to five per annum.”
He further said, “I think a lot of teams would imagine that should have come out of the budget cap on the basis that the three key team people would have been Adrian Newey, Christian Horner, and I guess Pierre, the technical director. There’s more than three quite well paid people there. I suppose that’s one of the issues.”
Helmut Marko has been at the top of Red Bull’s team hierarchy for a long time, and if Windsor’s allegations are true, then it might very well be a possibility that Marko will leave the team in the coming year to cut down on their expenditure. Now, it all remains to be seen how this entire fiasco straightens out in the end.
