McLaren has had a few changes in their team over the past few months. One of the most prominent changes being the arrival of Oscar Piastri. In a bizarre situation, Oscar replaced Daniel Ricciardo who parted ways with the team after a horrid year with the team. In response to Daniel’s exit, the team hired Piastri to complete their driver pairing for the 2023 F1 season.
Oscar Piastri will be partnering up with F1 hotshot Lando Norris as both the drivers will aim to bring the team back to its glory days. After having a tough time leaving the Alpine junior academy, the Australian driver finally got to chance to compete in F1 as the court ruled in his favour. After the whole McLaren saga. Oscar also went on to take part in the young drivers test in Abu Dhabi last year.
While the Aussie driver was still a part of Alpine, he got a lot of opportunities to get behind the wheel of a F1 car. After driving both the F1 cars, he could easily compare the two and had a lot to discuss. He told the media that the McLaren is a bit tough to steer which can explain why Daniel Ricciardo wasn’t able to drive the car to its full potential. Some might say that this is what brought his career at McLaren to shambles.

In an interview with Speedcafe, here is what the McLaren driver had to say. It’s difficult to say if it’s a McLaren characteristic or a 2022 characteristic. I don’t want to put it into the ‘it’s a McLaren characteristic’ basket. I think there are maybe a few small things that are a bit different”, Piastri stated. The Aussie feels that the McLaren is a different car compared to others and he will need to make some changes in his driving style in order to adapt to the vehicle.
With the 2023 season commencing in March, the wait is almost over with the Car launches and Pre Season testing taking place in February. It will be interesting to see how Australian driver Oscar Piastri tackles the problems at McLaren and face Lando Norris as a teammate. After destroying Daniel on the track, it’s clear that Lando could repeat the same with Oscar.
