“He was about the same as average,” Peter Windsor believes Sebastian Vettel has never been at par with Lewis Hamilton
Ask any fan of Formula 1 and they would say Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel are two of the most talented racers who have been seen in the king class of motorsports in the recent times. Amongst the two of them, they share eleven World Championship victories, thus making them members of the club of the most successful F1 racers in history. But it is true that the debate of who is better–Hamilton or Vettel–had plagued the minds of many F1 followers over the years. Now, Vettel will not be present on the 2023 grid as he retired at the end of last year while Hamilton is still showing no signs of slowing down. But the debate still rages on.
Formula 1 analyst Peter Windsor has given his take on whether Sebastian Vettel or Lewis Hamilton is the better racer. According to him, Vettel has never been at par with Hamilton’s talent and the German is “just an ordinary racing driver”. While this outrageous comment might offend the massive fan following that Sebastian Vettel has gathered over his fifteen years in Formula 1, Windsor has backed his claim with some facts that he has observed over the two racers’ F1 careers.
In 2008, Lewis Hamilton grabbed the Championship win over Felipe Massa in only his second season in F1. And from 2010 to 2013, Sebastian Vettel remained absolutely invincible behind the wheels of his Red Bull racecars for four consecutive years. But 2014 saw Vettel being outscored quite a few times by his newbie teammate Daniel Ricciardo.
And in the next year, the German followed Michael Schumacher’s path to go to Ferrari in hopes of a fifth World Championship title, which never eventually came. At long last, Vettel settled for a seat at Aston Martin after his six years at the Maranello outfit could not yield him a single Championship win. And all this while, Lewis kept winning Grands Prix as he amassed seven World titles to equal Schumacher’s count.
Peter Windsor fires an outrageous claim as he says Sebastian Vettel was “exposed” during his time at Red Bull in 2014
Peter Windsor proceeded to settle the Lewis Hamilton versus Sebastian Vettel debate with his own opinions as he said, “I always thought Vettel was a very reflexy, very fast, very well-balanced driver who, even in his testing for Sauber days, was nothing other than the ultimate exponent of turning the corner into a V shape. And he had that at Red Bull, when he had that amazing grip at the rear, blown diffuser and everything else. When that went away in the regulations in his last year at Red Bull, he became just an ordinary racing driver and actually struggled against Daniel Ricciardo. It was obvious then that that’s how he was exposed.“
Thus, Windsor believes Lewis Hamilton is indeed a lot more talented than Sebastian Vettel ever was. Now, the German in question is no longer around in the Formula 1 grid to prove Windsor wrong by scoring a new Championship win as he retired last year to focus more on his personal life. While Vettel has not declared which direction his racing career will go from here but rumors say he has gotten many offers from IndyCar and Formula E. But no confirmation regarding the German’s future moves have come as of yet.
