Verstappen was heavily criticized for impeding on Yuki Tsunoda’s hot lap on Saturday. The criticism stemmed more from Verstappen escaping all possible serious penalties after that incident. The FIA recently announced that they take the blame for the lack of penalization and termed Max Verstappen’s penalty escape a ‘wrong call’.
Pierre Gasly, a former AlphaTauri and Red Bull driver commented on the issue. The French driver appreciated the FIA over accepting their fault. He said, reported by RaceFans.net “It’s a fair play on their side to recognize because no one’s perfect, we all make a wrong judgment sometimes.” Gasly added, “I think it was good from their side.”
Pierre was very critical of the FIA previously. He pointed out how the FIA often violates its own rules in a very disorganized manner. Gasly had demanded a more ‘black and white’ way of applying rules and it’s wholesome to see Gasly acknowledge the FIA’s effort of acknowledging their faults.
Pierre Gasly’s previous remarks about lack of consistency in FIA’s penalty ruling
Pierre Gasly finished in a positive P6 at the Singapore GP. The Frenchman was caught in a battle against Kevin Magnussen and claims the Haas driver pushed him off the track on multiple instances. Gasly criticized the FIA for not penalizing Magnussen and cited his previous penalties for his disappointment.
“I just asked if he can push someone off the race track when I’m going to pass him, I’m going to give him a little nudge and do the same. I’m not going to open the topic – it’s just, make it black and white”, said Gasly. He added saying, “I don’t fully understand the regulation. I read the regulations, I know the regulations, but then it doesn’t always translate to what happens on the track.”
Gasly had incurred a 6 place grid penalty at the Spanish Grand Prix. The penalty was given for ‘impeding another driver on track’. Gasly claims that instance was ‘way less’ than that of Magnussen at Singapore.
