Pietro Fittipaldi will race with a tribute driver helmet for his family in FP1 at Abu Dhabi

Pietro Fittipaldi is the grandson of former Formula 1 world champion, Emerson Fittipaldi. Pietro has been part of the Haas F1 team as a test driver since 2019 and even stood in for an injured Romain Grosjean for the final two races of the 2020 season. At this year’s final round of the championship at the Yas Marina circuit, the 26-year-old will make his return in an F1 car at the first practice session on Friday with the American team.

This is also the first occasion for Pietro to race in a Formula 1 weekend alongside his brother Enzo Fittipaldi who will be competing in Formula 2. To mark this special event, the Haas driver will be racing with a tribute helmet, one which brings light to the sacrifices made by the Brazilian’s mother, father and sister, whose names are present on the helmet. The tribute tells us about the lesser-known Fittipaldi family who too played an immense role in the careers of Pietro and Enzo.

On Twitter, the 26-year-old shared an emotional message and said, “This helmet is dedicated to my dad, mom, and sister who sacrificed so much for me and Enzo so we could chase our dreams. Love you guys.” While the Haas team’s official Twitter account appreciated the helmet and called it a “Nice Touch.” Driver helmets are a big part of any driver’s personality and life, it represents the individual’s personal side. This tribute truly does its job.

The Fittipaldis have always been known for the success of Emerson, which sidelines the rest of the family, and with the rise of the careers of the two brothers, the Abu Dhabi GP weekend is the perfect opportunity for Pietro to give a shout-out to his family which stays away from the public eye yet has spent their lives working towards his and Enzo’s dreams of becoming a Formula 1 world champion.

The Abu Dhabi GP is the first F1 weekend for Pietro Fittipaldi to race along with brother Enzo

Pietro has been a stable part of Haas since 2019 but has failed to get a full-time drive

Pietro has spent a few years in the sport on the sidelines but in the meantime, the Brazilian has raced elsewhere, with stints in Indycar and even the European Le Mans series. Despite such running in competitive championships over the years, the 26-year-old has failed to convince Haas for a full-time seat in Formula 1, and with the American team’s long-term lineup secured with the signing of Nico Hulkenberg, it seems that Pietro might not get a shot any time soon.

On the other hand, Enzo Fittipaldi recently joined the Red Bull driver academy, giving the 21-year-old a perfect platform for a shot at Formula 1 if the opportunity is provided by the Austrian team. Thus it can be said, that despite the apparent success in achieving the dream of racing at the pinnacle of motorsport, the two brothers have indeed been doing their best and so has their family members who certainly deserved this tribute.
