Formula One has grown rapidly to become a massive sport in the recent years, and there have been news that many brands are interested in joining the highest league of motorsports to increase their reach through it. Amongst the luxury car brands, Mercedes, Aston Martin, McLaren, and some other companies have already gotten their own teams competing for the Constructors’ Championship in F1, but Audi and Porsche are rumored to be planning for an F1 entry in the near future.

Only a few months ago, reports arose in the Formula One community, which suggested that the Red Bull Racing Team are in talks with Porsche about a potential engine deal after Honda walked out of their contract with RB at the end of 2021. But then it was confirmed by executives at Red Bull that the said deal with Porsche fell through because the team wants to maintain their uniqueness in their engines.

Months ago, the Volkswagen group CEO had said that both Porsche and Audi are looking for ways to enter Formula 1 as engine sponsors. While the deal with Red Bull fell through, the carmaker believes the Championship is “an attractive prospect” and they must use this opportunity to capture the market.

Speaking about this, an FIA official said, “At Spa-Francorchamps in August, Audi announced it was joining the FIA Formula One World Championship from 2026 as a power unit manufacturer. We also note that Porsche are still in discussions with Formula One teams.”

As of yet, there is no news about which teams Porsche is especially considering for the engine sponsorship. Meanwhile, Audi is almost confirmed as an F1 entrant in the 2026 season. Now, it remains to be seen how Porsche end up with a contract with one of the teams in the near future.
