Lewis Hamilton‘s switch to Ferrari has emptied the spot at one of the best teams in Formula 1. Multiple drivers’ contracts will end soon, and hence Toto Wolff has a plethora of options to choose the driver to fill the seat. Amidst this, Ralf Schumacher has put forth his nephew and son of Michael Schumacher, Mick Schumacher to be a great fill for the empty seat at Brackley.
Mick Schumacher joined Mercedes as its reserve driver last season. Ralf Schumacher speculated Wolff’s requirements for a second driver to partner George Russell. The former driver asserted that Mick Schumacher was one of the best options among young people to drive for Brackley from 2025 onwards. The 24-year-old drove at the Haas F1 team for two seasons but was ousted from the team after two seasons.
The question is if they are going to go for experience or if they are going to trust future talents. Mick is one of the best options among young people.Schumacher told Sky Germany.
Further, the former F1 driver highlighted that his nephew would complement Russell well in the team for the Silly season of 2025. Additionally, Mick Schumacher had great options and deserved the opportunity according to his uncle. The 48-year-old claimed that he had heard only good things about the 24-year-old from the Silver Arrows.
I think Mick's options are good and he deserves the opportunity. He would be a good pilot with Russell to grow for the future. I'm pretty sure of that, now Toto needs to have the same opinion, but so far, I've only heard good things about Mick.
Ralf Schumacher felt that Lewis Hamilton had lost confidence in Mercedes
The former Toyota driver made some bold claims about the reason behind Hamilton’s unexpected departure from Mercedes. Ralf Schumacher added that Lewis Hamilton lost confidence in Brackley’s capabilities to build a championship-winning car. Hence, this led to the seven-time world champion leaving the team so unannounced.
Apart from this, the 48-year-old drew attention to the two difficult past seasons that Mercedes had alongside Lewis Hamilton. The Briton was unable to win any races with the team for the past two seasons. Additionally, Fred Vasseur shared a great bond with Hamilton according to the German.
Regardless of the switch, Hamilton will race for Mercedes in 2024 and conclude his final season. Hence, the 39-year-old will provide his best to the team and try to maximize results. Lewis Hamilton leaving his long-time team was a difficult decision and could make him and the team shed some tears towards the end of their journey at the pinnacle of motorsport.
