Ticket sales of F1 Miami Grand Prix and F1 US Grand Prix prove that the FIA are on their way towards achieving the American Dream
In the recent years, Formula 1 has seen a massive boom in its popularity across the pond, thanks to several factors like the hit Netflix docu-series Drive to Survive and also the FIA’s endless efforts to make F1 a household name in the United States. With these recent developments, the posh, elitist, European image of the pinnacle of motorsports is falling away and it is becoming more accessible to the common people. And the latest ticket sales numbers of the two American Formula 1 Grands Prix prove the fact that the F1 wave has reached the shores of the US, and thing are about to get even bigger now.
Not very long ago, Formula 1 was viewed as a closed-off sport that was reserved only for the aristocrats of Europe. But as the ownership of the F1 franchise changed hands from Bernie Ecclestone’s corporation to the Liberty Media, things began to change. The new owners wanted F1 to be a global phenomenon, and to become a major sport, they needed F1 to take over the American markets. And half this job was done by the Netflix show Drive to Survive which documents the paddock lives of all the people associated with F1.
DTS gained such a popularity that fans of the show got interested in watching Formula 1, and the FIA cashed in on this opportunity by introducing another Grand Prix in the USA besides the United States Grand Prix which takes place in Austin every year. And it seems that the FIA have gotten their predictions correct as F1 is close to achieving its American dream with the ticket sales of its two American Grands Prix making it into the list of the top 10 most in-demand global sport experiences in 2022, published by StubHub.
Two Formula 1 Grands Prix make a debut in the list of the top 10 most in-demand sport experiences in the world
StubHub is an online ticket-selling outlet which allows its customers to purchase and resell tickets to the various sports and other events that happen all around the world. StubHub also sells tickets to major leagues like the F1 Grands Prix, the FIFA World Cup games, etc. And at the end of each year, it publishes a report of which games have gotten the highest ticket sales. This year, Formula 1 has made a debut in the list as it’s two Grands Prix in the USA–the Miami Grand Prix and the United States Grand Prix have recorded huge ticket sales.
The list showed the newly introduced Mimai Grand Prix come in at number 8, above the MLB All-Star game while the United States Grand Prix took the ninth spot. StubHub has included reports from ticket-selling corporation Viagogo’s business in the 175 countries of the world, and this shows the success of the FIA’s plans to bring Formula 1 to America. Next year, the fans in the US will see yet another new race being added to their country’s schedule as the spectacular Las Vegas GP will arrive during the middle of November, 2023.
