Red Bull admits the RB20’s design was radically altered due to ‘fear of vulnerability’ in 2024
Red Bull has decided to make some massive changes to their 2024 car compared to RB19.

Red Bull’s aero-wizard Adrian Newey admitted that the fear of vulnerability had caused a radical change in the RB20 design. He disclosed the team’s choice to go with gradual enhancements in the car. RB20 which comes with a new design as compared to RB19 needs to showcase whether it can perform better than its predecessor
Newey, who has won 12 constructor’s championships with 3 different companies has a big responsibility of designing the Red Bull cars that not just win races but dominate the whole grid. The RB19 which was designed by Newey helped champion Max Verstappen to break multiple records for Red Bull. The RB20 needs to showcase whether Newey’s design can make the Red Bull successful again.
It was clear to us that everyone else would copy our car from last year. If we had only relied on further development, we would have been vulnerable.Newey said, as reported by RBR News
The Red Bull Team Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey said that the team knew that everyone would try to copy their design. So, the Team decided to rely on further development of the car on which RB20 is based.
Adrian Newey has discovered an “interesting” innovation in the Mercedes W15
Adrian Newey, in a different interview, pointed out that there is an interesting innovation in the Mercedes W15. ‘During the Mercedes’s launch, Newey mentioned something interesting about an innovation, but he wouldn’t say what it was. It is suspected that he was speaking of the design of the front wings.
Newey said at his car’s launch that there was an innovation on the Mercedes that he found “interesting” although he would not reveal what it was. The suspicion is that he was referring to the front-wing designAndrew Benson said via BBC.
Toto Wolff also said he is hoping that the W15 this season will help George Russell and Lewis Hamilton catch up to Red Bull, the champions from the previous year. Last season, Mercedes had a fierce battle with Ferrari, McLaren, and occasionally Aston Martin, with Red Bull leading the race.
