Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes to bring in major upgrades for the much anticipated British GP

Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes

Red Bull and Ferrari have definitely been head and shoulders above the rest of the pack and when we say rest of the pack, it does include Mercedes. A team which has been dominant for the past 8 seasons is getting a taste of its own medicine because of its inability of get on top of their well documented issues. We have seen Mercedes put in some half decent performances but nothing substantial to put them in the fight for the championship.

The good news for them is that we are just 9 races into a pretty long season despite the Russian Grand Prix being cancelled at the start of the season. After some help from the FIA during the Canada GP, Mercedes looks like a more stable unit. Lewis Hamilton, who has been a victim of porpoising, looked much more comfortable behind the wheel of that W-13. Something that we have rarely seen.

Toto Wolff understands that it’s important to build on the momentum and nail the hammer on the head. Mercedes has reacted to the situation by bringing in some major upgrades to the rear-wing, sidepod inlets, among other things. Red Bull and Ferrari have also responded to Mercedes by bringing in upgrades of their own, which sets the stage for a fascinating and an edge of your seat affair in Silverstone.

David Croft has been particularly been impressed with Mercedes’ position ahead of the British GP. He said, “We could be set, and I’m hoping we’re set for a really good battle out in front between not two, but three teams. All of whom may not be separated by a huge amount, which is what a sold-out crowd want to see, the best drivers out there going wheel to wheel.”

“This is a massive weekend for Mercedes. We went to Spain and they had a handle on the bouncing, but then we went to street circuits – Monaco, Baku and Canada – which were a lot bumpier.”

Silverstone should be a lot smoother a track, and should reward the characteristics of the car. If the upgrades they’ve brought are working well then they should be set for a strong weekend.

Red Bull and Ferrari might have to be on their toes to fend off the attacks from elsewhere too. The two have been at it but it seems this weekend could be a three horse race for the win. Get you seat belts on, it’s going to be a cracker of a weekend in Silverstone.
