Red Bull have been absolutely dominating the sport since the 2022 season. After their intense battle against Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton throughout the 2021 season, the team have proven to be ‘unbeatable’ as they have claimed the 2021, 2022, and the 2023 Titles. The Milton-Keynes based outfit only appear to reach higher as their major sponsor – Tag Heuer confirm their contract extension with the team.
The Red Bull team and the Swiss brand joined hands in 2016 as Tag Heuer decided to come on as the main sponsor for the team. This partnership has only prospered since then as it is slated to complete 8 seasons together at the end of the 2023 season. Christian Horner, the Boss at Red Bull commented on the contract extension.
We are very proud to extend our partnership with TAG Heuer, one of the most credible and iconic brands in the world of Formula One. Our collaboration with TAG Heuer has been a source of inspiration and innovation in the paddock.Christian Horner said, as reported by BlackBookMotorsport.
The luxury watchmaking brand is of a Swiss decent and is widely recognised as one of the most prominent watch companies. The length of this current contract extension has not been confirmed, However, the previous contracts duration suggest that this might be a deal which lasts another 3 years. The last extension between the two parties was agreed in 2018, extending a partnership that began in 2016.
Max Verstappen’s troubled Gas Station incident
The famous gas station incident unfolded when Max Verstappen was just 14 years old. At that time, Max and his father Jos were in Naples for a race as part of Jos’s strategy to help Max learn and compete against different drivers across Europe. During the race near Naples, Max tried a risky move against another driver, resulting in a crash and a premature end to the race.
After the race, Max wanted to talk to his father about what happened. However, Jos, still upset about Max’s race-ending crash, did not want to talk. Describing the situation, Jos Verstappen’s quotes sounded quite alarming.
He wanted to talk, I didn't want to talk. So I said, 'If you don't shut up, I'll send you out.
As a result, Jos left Max at a gas station but later came back to pick him up.
Max mentioned that his father didn’t speak to him for a whole week after the incident. It’s important to note that Jos Verstappen has faced legal issues, including an assault conviction in 1998. Despite this, Jos has consistently denied mistreating Max. He explained to TIME that he only hit Max once, on the helmet, before a race in England, and believed that this had a positive impact, contributing to Max’s victory in that race.
