Red Bull ‘stabbed me in the back’ with Max Verstappen betrayal, claims Daniil Kvyat
Daniil Kvyat recently discussed how he felt when he was dropped from Red Bull mid-season in favor of Max Verstappen.
Only days after rocking the Formula 1 world with his massive claim about having received a proposal from Ferrari to drive for them, Daniil Kvyat is once again back in the news. The Russian former F1 racer bared all his secrets in the newest episode of the ‘Track Limits’ podcast, which gave fans lots of information about what was really going on in his career during the 2016-2017 period. It was during this time that he shot to instant fame for being Red Bull‘s “chosen one” to replace the four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel. But just as quickly as he had gained popularity, he became somewhat redundant after a quick drop from Red Bull.
Now, Daniil Kvyat has spoken out on how he felt after being flipped away by Red Bull in favor of Max Verstappen. He was slowly gaining momentum with a few podium wins to his name when the executives at the Milton-Keynes-based outfit decided Daniil Kvyat was not going to yield them the results they wanted from their drivers. Thus, a sudden decision changed Kvyat’s F1 career overnight as he was sacked from Red Bull and young racer Max Verstappen was taken up in his place.
While going over the time in 2016 when Kvyat was demoted to Red Bull’s sister team Toro Rosso only four races into the season, he said he felt betrayed. He explained, “I felt really betrayed at that moment. It was a stab in the back.” To add more salt to the wound, Kvyat could never win a Grand Prix in F1, but his replacement at Red Bull, Max Verstappen went on to win the World Championship for their team in 2021 and 2022.
Daniil Kvyat never made peace with Red Bull’s decision to replace him
Daniil Kvyat’s life in Formula 1 has seen some strange ups and downs. One moment, he was Red Bull’s golden boy, replacing the racing fiend Sebastian Vettel in his four-time title-winning seat, and the next moment, he was demoted to a lesser team because of a P15 finish in his own home race.
Kvyat explained his feelings about the demotion, saying, “I felt really betrayed at that moment. It was a stab in the back and that’s life, you get stabbed in the back sometimes you know, it’s normal. Now it’s the past. I have another good career in racing so part of me of course is very thankful to Red Bull. The other part of me is still very unhappy with it.”
Now, Daniil Kyvat has moved on from the disappointment of his F1 career as the 28-year-old has recently tasted the waters in NASCAR. He is currently busy with the World Endurance Championship, where he is a driver for the Prema Racing team.
