As the occasion of Christmas finally rolled around, the world of sports reacted, with athletes and sporting teams posting to celebrate. Sky Sports, known for its extensive coverage of all kinds of sports, posted a poster with athletes representing their respective leagues. Sky Sports F1’s choice of driver for their poster was Lando Norris.

Lando Norris was a controversial choice for the poster, as the more successful and prolific drivers Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen were excluded from the poster. Norris has never won in F1 and finished sixth in the championship despite a major comeback late in the season.

Moreover, Lando Norris is yet to win in Formula One in his seven-year tenure in the pinnacle of motorsport. With 13 podiums, the Briton is tied for the record of top-three finishes without a race win. Sky Sports might’ve wanted a British driver for its poster considering the broadcaster’s viewer base. However, in such a case Lewis Hamilton would’ve been the obvious choice as the 38-year-old has achieved unprecedented success in F1.

Fans SLAM Sky Sports for not having Lewis Hamilton in its Christmas poster

Fans on X reacted adversely to the Christmas posted by Sky Sports F1, which used Lando Norris to represent Formula One ahead of more popular drivers. This choice drew criticism from fans of Lewis Hamilton, furious at their favorite driver being missing from the poster. Some users mocked Norris’s lack of wins in F1, calling him the “O wins merchant” and “Lando Nowins” on the post. As the users questioned the preference of Norris over the more successful Lewis Hamilton.

Additionally, many were surprised by Lewis Hamilton’s exclusion from the poster, as the Briton is the most successful driver to ever compete in the sport, and has been part of many previous media posts by Sky Sports in the past. One fan asked, “Why is Lewis not there?” While another user called out the seemingly overdone diversity in the poster, sarcastically saying that the image was not diverse enough.

On the other hand, many poked fun at the critics of the poster. Some even called the Hamilton fans who questioned his absence “crybabies”, especially considering the poster was intended to celebrate Christmas rather than pick one driver over another.
