‘Smooth Operator’ Carlos Sainz hailed as he surprises Max Verstappen and Red Bull to claim first career pole position in Silverstone

The weather conditions in the Silverstone Circuit made for a thrilling Qualifying Session for the British Grand Prix, with some interesting tyre choices, a few spins and a surprisingly excellent performance from Williams racer Nicholas Latifi. While the Canadian wowed everyone by surpassing the likes of Daniel Ricciardo, Esteban Ocon, and Pierre Gasly to get into Q3 in one of the most famous tracks of all time, Ferrari racer Carlos Sainz clearly stole the show with his fantastic performance that fetched him a pole position at the 2022 British Grand Prix.

The Qualifiers for the 10th race in the F1 2022 Championship Calendar started with predictions of scattered spells of rain, but it soon turned into a downpour. Thus, most of the racers went out on intermediate tyres and decided to make the most of their run by using some interesting tactics.

Of course, such an intense Qualifying Session is bound to be followed by some hilarious Twitter Reactions by the F1 followers who quickly took to their social media handles to talk about the lap times set by their favorite racers today. And the unanimous vote, from all of them, went to Nicholas Latifi and Carlos Sainz–who both outshone their teammates today.

The Ferrari racers had almost given up hope as Max Verstappen seemed to cruise to the top of the grid during the final Free Practice ractice sessions ahead of the Qualifiers. As Carlos Sainz had come sixth in FP3, the Tifosi could not see how the Spaniard would surpass the two Red Bulls to grab a pole at Silverstone, but that is exactly the #55 racer did.

While both Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc made their fair share of mistakes in the wet weather (Max spun during his first flying lap in Q3 and Charles Leclerc did the same towards the end of Q3), Carlos Sainz kept his calm and showed his fans his true skills. In the end, Carlos went up to achieve a provisional pole while Max Verstappen was still in the second sector of his lap. As the Tifosi waited with bated breath to see if Verstappen outperforms Sainz with his timings, the reigning World Champion finish second in the Q3 standings and Carlos Sainz became the pole-sitter at Silverstone.

With such a great finish to his Saturday in Britain, Carlos Sainz got thousands of fans tweeting in his praise on social media. Here is what they had to say:
