“Stop back tracking,” F1 Fans react after Fernando Alonso clarifies his controversial statement on the worth of Lewis Hamilton-Max Verstappen titles

Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso a two-time world champion and a part of the history of the sport with regards to being one of the best in history didn’t hold back his words for Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen’s titles. The two-time world champion lost to Hamilton in the very first season of their being teammates.

Alonso is a big Max Verstappen fan and respects him for what the young driver has achieved considering his age. But earlier on this weekend, Alonso did upset some fans, especially Hamilton fans with his harsh but ‘misunderstood’ words.

Alonso disregarded Hamilton’s titles and understands Verstappen’s wins to be more valuable than the seven-time world champion’s. Verstappen won his first title by beating Hamilton last season and has had a far easier time in 2022.
Clarifying his statement, the Spaniard said: “And again… Please, all the titles are amazing, well-deserved and inspiring. Incomparable to each other and let’s enjoy champions and legends of our current time. Tired of the continuous search for headlines. Let’s enjoy them,” explained Alonso.

Alonso later cleared all his words and intent via Twitter, claiming that it was a play by the media for headline, though a lot fans still didn’t take it well and came out with more countering to Alonso’s words.

But Alonso did find some supporters, who also felt that the media had made the statement seem worse than it was, one fan saying that the comments were taken out of context.

But people still feel that his opinion comes from a place of ‘salt’. Alonso and Hamilton had a famously icy relationship back when they were teammates at McLaren.

Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are arch-rivals but have to respect each other and the achievements they have managed to win at an early age. Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton are similarly old rivals, but they surely do have respect for each other’s achievements, and with time, the ‘feud’ has mellowed.
