“Such talents don’t disappear,” Mario Andretti believes Mick Schumacher will “undoubtedly” be back on the F1 grid

Formula 1 World Champion Mario Andretti is the latest personnel to back Mick Schumacher as the young German is now exiled from regular racing for at least a year. As the scion of the legendary Schumacher clan, Mick proved his worth by clinching the 2020 Formula 2 Championship victory, but upon his entry into F1, his results failed to impress many. Mick Schumacher debuted at the premiere class of motorsports with a shiny new contract with American racing team Haas. Unfortunately, two seasons into his career with Haas, the team executives decided he has not yielded the results that they wanted to see, and hence they decided against renewing their deal with him.

Now, the news that Mick Schumacher would not be continuing at Haas came at a very late stage and he could not find a regular racing seat at any of the other teams. Finally, Mercedes took him up as their reserve driver, leading to much speculation from the fans. They wondered if bringing Mick into the team meant Mercedes are looking out for the future when Lewis Hamilton will retire and the junior Schumacher can take his place.

Addressing all the theories that the fans have cooked up in relation to Mick Schumacher’s future in F1, Mario Andretti gave his view. With race wins in every racing series starting from Formula 1 and ending at the World Sportscar Championship, Andretti has seen his fair share of talent on the racetracks and he believes Mick is one of them. He said there is no doubt that Mick Schumacher will return to regular racing once again since the young German has “undoubtedly” shown so much improvement already.

Mario Andretti reckons Mick Schumacher will be taken up by “someone”

When Mick Schumacher came into Formula 1 with Haas, he was expected to do some great things with the American team. Unfortunately for Mick, his 2022 teammate Kevin Magnussen stole the show while he was left with extensive crash damage and only some performances that were worth watching out for. Hence, he was replaced by Nico Hulkenberg for the 2023 Haas lineup. But Mario Andretti said, “I’m sure someone will take him. Such talents don’t disappear. I think Mick has improved enormously, especially in the past season. No question about it. And that was evident in his performance.”

On the other hand, Mick’s current employer Toto Wolff, who is the Team Boss at Mercedes, reckoned that his year as the reserve driver for the Stuttgart outfit will help him improve a lot. Wolff believes Mick needs a “safe” environment to learn and grow, and Mercedes will allow that.
