“There is not much time to take it easy,” Carlos Sainz sets his sights on the Austrian GP after his first win at Silverstone

Carlos Sainz won the British GP, his first-ever win in 150 races, but hasn’t enjoyed the victory fully with the Austrian Grand Prix on the line. British and Austria are the double headers mid-season, the hectic routine hasn’t allowed the first-time winner to fully celebrate his win. Austrian GP is the 11th round of the 2022 season, with Carlos now getting back his form, he includes himself in the fight for the win in the next race too.

British Grand Prix, arguably was one of the most fun races to watch this season, Carlos’ first pole and his first win came with this weekend. But he wasn’t the fastest around Silverstone, Charles Leclerc, his teammate, with a 25% front win damage still maintained the pace ahead. Max and Sergio also went unlucky but were still faster without the damage, He will still have to fight for the win in Austria and could be troubled by the top three in the championship.

“I can’t describe how it [the first win] feels, it’s very difficult and personal. I can tell you it’s great and it’s getting to me bit by bit. With the weekends in a row and this ‘sprint weekend’ there is not much time to take it easy. In any case, the victory has made me hungrier for more victories,” said Carlos Sainz.

Austria is the backyard for the Red Bull drivers, Max won the 2021 Austrian and Styrian Grand Prix in a dominating manner. But Ferrari this time around should be on equal terms with the Bulls with a car better on the turns. With 3 DRS zones, overtaking should be easier and in quantity this time.

“This weekend with the sprint will be intense. At FP1 the balance has to be right straight away. I expect good racing with the three DRS zones which are very important with these cars. Normally the racing in Austria is already great, but I expect it to be even better this weekend,” said Sainz.

Ferrari is still a lot behind the Red Bulls, and Charles still couldn’t cope with the Max having troubles in Silverstone. With the halfway mark, Championship could still see a turn towards the Red team.
