“There were some derogatory comments made”: Christian Horner explains Red Bull’s ban on SkySports and when they will permit their interviews again

Even though the season has already ended for Verstappen as he has won his second title at the Suzuka Grand Prix, the drama is still not over for the Dutchman. With some brilliant displays of driving skills on the racetrack, Red Bull racer Max Verstappen did attain the World Championship trophy this year, but some of his naysayers still believe his 2021 title was absolutely undeserved and should have gone to Lewis Hamilton.

With his “Lewis Hamilton was robbed of the 2021 title” quote, SkySports presenter Ted Kravitz has turned out to be one of the constant criticisers of Max Verstappen. The 48-year-old has often talked in clear favor of Hamilton, even though the press should always be impartial–and now, Red Bull has taken notice of it. In the Mexican Grand Prix, Verstappen refused to give any interviews to SkySports in protest of Ted Kravitz’s way of reporting the proceedings from the Grand Prix weekends. And soon after that, the entire team of Red Bull followed suit and boycotted the sports news channel.

Now, Red Bull has gotten the World Constructors’ Championship this year, and the open protest of such an influential team against SkySports has rocked the F1 world recently. But it has been clarified from the Milton Keyne-based team’s side that they will resume their press activities involving SkySports once the Brazil Grand Prix weekend arrives. Their team principal Christian Horner also said things will be “back to normal” at Sao Paulo.

After Max Verstappen‘s thundering victory at the Mexican Grand Prix against all odds, Christian Horner sat down for a recent interview and addressed the issues that Red Bull have had with SkySports, which led them to refuse giving interviews to the channel. Horner said, “There were some derogatory comments made, so we took a break from Sky for this race. Max was upset. We were upset, and we made the decision to stand together as a team. It won’t have done Sky any harm for us to lay down a marker.”

He also commented, “Some of the commentary is fair, but some pieces are sensationalist, and saying we robbed anyone of the championship, as we said in Austin, is going too far. It is not impartial or fair or balanced. We have said our piece and will go back to normal next race.”

Only a few days before the Main Race started off at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, fans began noticing that the footage Verstappen’s interviews with SkySports have gone missing even though the news channel was featuring all other racers. Then, it was heard that Verstappen personally refused to talk to any rep from SkySports owing to Ted Kravitz’s remarks. But now, as Christian Horner has said, it can be expected that thing will smoothen over between the two parties at the Brazil GP, which is in a few weeks’ time.
