F1 worker at Aston Martin
The world of F1 has again come under the scanner as another incident involving racist abuse has surfaced. A F1 worker has come out and shared his miserable experience during his time working with Aston Martin. This is the fourth incident in a very short time which has sparked another debate on social media and also highlighted the need to fight such social evils which continue to exist.
It all started with Nelson Piquet’s racially abusive remark against the seven time world champion, Lewis Hamilton. Former F1 driver, Piquet, called Hamilton the N-word and followed it up with a homophobic slanderous slur on a podcast. After this, Red Bull driver Juri Vips was suspended for using racist language during one of his live streams. But later on, Red Bull decided to retain him.
Most recently, it was reported that some fans were racially abused during the Austrian GP. There were also some reports of fans using sexist and homophobic comments. Now, we see a worker for Aston Martin reveal the kind of horrible experience he had while he was working for the team. He said that he was subjected to racist abuse from the time he joined the team.

During an interview with SkySports, the worker said there is an urgent need to confront racism in motorsport. He said, “It went from brownie to darkie – I wasn’t referred to as Aidy…or anything like that. I was called n** n** and brownie – that is what I was referred to.”
“It had taken me shift cycle after shift cycle of abuse after abuse, words going from n** n** and brownie to outright n***** when I am being called a n***** that’s where I draw the line, that’s where I go no.”
“Before I even walked into my working environment that’s when I was told ‘look if you’ve got a problem with how we speak here, it’s just how we speak’.”
F1 is continuously thriving to become a much more inclusive sport and therefore, such incidents don’t do them a world of good. There is a dire need for the FIA to intervene and take strict action against the culprits.
