It becomes a big problem for the F1 racing team when two of their drivers go up against each other in a fierce showdown on the racing tracks. This often happens when both the drivers are equally capable, and they want the same spot in the team. It happened in Red Bull during the regime of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo.

The competition between the two teammates had become so toxic at one point in time in 2018, that the two brilliant drivers took their rivalry to the racing tracks and crashed into each other in Azerbaijan just so that neither of them could score points and outscore each other.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has now revealed that he was livid after the showdown between Max and Daniel in Baku, and he had reprimanded both the drivers for their improper actions. The crash caused huge damage to both their cars, and it required a big sum of money to repair them for the next race. The incident in 2018 Baku ended up with a double DNF for both the Red Bull drivers and in that way, the British team lost out on two potential podium places due to a toxic environment between the two drivers.

Following the crash between Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo in Baku, they were both summoned by Christian Horner who believed that Max had defended too hard and Daniel had attacked too fiercely for the same position as neither of them wanted to yield. Then, the two drivers had crashed mid-race, causing Red Bull to suffer a double DNF. The repairing of the cars cost Red Bull a huge sum of money and the team lost out on a good result because of the two drivers.

While giving an account of the incident from four years ago, Christian Horner said, “It’s the most frustrating thing in the world to see your own cars collide. They were both wrong. You could see it building up and eventually, after the race, they got their butts kicked. I then told them, ‘They’re not your cars‘.”

Christian Horner further continued with how he punished both Max and Daniel, “Both drivers were a little embarrassed at that moment, but the way you really hit a driver is when they have to pay a high price. They also had to pay the bill for the Christmas party. All the drinks were paid for by the drivers. That probably hurt them more than any other penalty.”
