“This is a performance sport”: Guenther Steiner demands Mick Schumacher find a balance between performance and safe driving to avoid crashes

Mick Schumacher and Guenther Steiner
For Haas Formula 1 team, the beginning to the 2022 season of Formula 1 turned out to be a giant success as their team boss Gunther Steiner realised he had made the right call by recruiting Kevin Magnussen once again following Nikita Mazepin‘s high profile exit from Haas. The Danish racer scored a P5 finish in the season opener in Bahrain and followed it up with another top 10 finish in Jeddah.
But Haas recruit Mick Schumacher could not keep his performance at par with his teammate’s, even after having spent a year with the team already. The F2 Champion came into Formula 1 with a contract with Haas last year, and till date, he has not been able to score a single point. In Monaco, he succumbed to a massive accident during the Main Race and had to suffer an early DNF.
Now, Haas Team Principal Guenther Steiner has expressed his opinions on Mick Schumacher’s current performance in the Grands Prix.
Guenther Steiner believes Mick Schumacher must look for a balance between performance and safe racing

Mick Schumacher, who is only 23 years of age, is already in his second year in F1 and heis hungry for some points. But when the German talent tried to maneuver his car around a corner in the Monaco Street Circuit during the Monaco GP Main Race, he crashed into the wall, ending his run once and for all. In Baku, his fans expected him to perform well after it was confirmed that Schumacher has not endured any injury even after his Monaco crash.
But in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Mick Schumacher qualified in the twentieth spot and came fourteenth in the Main Race, only ahead of Nicholas Latifi of Williams. Speaking on his performance in the 2022 races, Haas supremo Guenther Steiner has said, “It is for sure a tricky situation at the moment for him and for the team as well. This is a performance sport, and what do you need in a performance sport? Performance.”
He further said, “But I think he did the right thing, because if he would have wrecked again here, I mean, that wouldn’t be good, you know?
“I’d rather it was like this than wrecking again, trying to do something which maybe isn’t there.”
