“This year’s car is one,” Lando Norris hopes that McLaren’s 2023 F1 car is more suited to his driving style
McLaren F1 driver Lando Norris had some interesting comments to make about the team’s 2023 challenger.
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri at the McLaren Car Launch
McLaren, along with many other teams have already launched their cars for the 2023 F1 season. Their driver, Lando Norris is adamant on finding the right balance, and hoping that the car is more suited to him. While designing and testing a car for the upcoming season, the team takes input from both the drivers and also the reserve/simulator development drivers.
After gathering all the relevant data, the team pushes for the best design that will offer the optimal result. In previous years, teams were given multiple days to test their cars before the season started. for the upcoming 2023 season, there will only be three days of testing. This basically means that Lando Norris will get to drive the car for one and a half day while Oscar Piastri will get the car for the rest of the time.
This has posed a serious challenge towards competitors but will also make things interesting going into the season. Lando Norris was a superstar at McLaren in the 2022 season. The Brit finished best of the rest in 7th position in the drivers standings. Compared to his performance, now Ex-McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo’s performance felt shabby. However, it is clear that Lando Norris is hungry for more.
Lando Norris wants a car that is best suited for him
In an interview with GPblog, here is what he had to say. “Every driver wants a car, which is just quick and I think that’s always been the goal the last few years. But, personally, as a driver, I spend a bit more time to try and go through things with all the engineers, to give them the understanding of maybe a little bit more of what we struggle with in terms of balance and how the car acts through the corners,” Norris stated.
“So, maybe this year’s car is one which can suit me more, but when I say suit me, it’s also just to make the car quicker in general. It’s not just suit me personally as a driving style,” he concluded. The British driver first joined McLaren and debuted in Formula One in 2019. Since then, it will be his 5th season with the team in the pinnacle of motorsport.
Lando Norris finished 7th in the drivers standings in the 2023 F1 season. He was just ahead of the Alpine drivers who managed to get their team into 4th position in the constructors championships. After parting ways with Ricciardo, Rookie driver Oscar Piastri has joined the Papaya squad to race alongside Lando and help the team achieve greater success. It will be interesting to see how the McLaren duo performs in 2023.
