“Today went well”: Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz react to the Ferrari front row lockout in Miami GP

As we just witnessed the end to the Qualifying Session of the first-ever Miami Grand Prix in the history of Formula 1, the turn of events in the last few seconds were quite hard to digest. While Max Verstappen went into the 1:28’s before Charles Leclerc did, and clinched provisional pole, both the Ferraris of Leclerc and his teammate, Carlos Sainz came back with new energy and pushed hard to get P1 and P2 in the Qualifying.

Max Verstappen tried his best to stay atop the grid positions and clinch P1 in Qualifying but he failed to do it. And in place of Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc came through with thundering speed in his Ferrari SF-75. While he had an upsetting race at Imola in his team’s home country in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, the Monegasque had promised to come back better and faster in Miami. He delivered on his promises as he put the fastest lap in the Qualifying and clinched the pole position.

Not just Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz also gave Ferrari an amazing performance, making sure that the people at the Scuderia garage get the best possible result out of this Qualifying. In Imola, Ferrari had their home race, but it was upsetting for the Tifosi because Carlos retired right at the beginning of the race and Charles made a mistake and fell down to P6. But in Miami, the Ferrari drivers look like they are seeking for redemption now.

From the rankings in the free practices and the performance of the Ferrari and the Red Bull drivers in Q1 and Q2, it was quite clear that the fight for the top 3 positions in the race would be between these two teams. Max Verstappen, who has already got a 27 point difference between himself and Championship leader Charles Leclerc, needed to score the pole position at Miami. Unfortunately for him, Charles was also hungry for a pole after the upset at Imola in the last race.

Speaking on the performance he put up in Miami today, Charles Leclerc said, “It’s amazing. Today went well, we’re starting on pole so we need to finish the job tomorrow.” Like a true winner, the Monegasque knows his main goal tomorrow is to seek for the race win and secure it. In the post-qualifiers interview, Charles confirmed that he will deliver to the best of his abilities for P1 tomorrow.

Carlos Sainz was also elated for the P2 finish in the Miami Qualifiers. The Spaniard said, “Given from where I was coming from yesterday, I will take it. Tomorrow is going to be an interesting day, I think we can do a good job“.
