The German manufacturers are looking forward to the Brazilian GP after scoring impressive results at the Mexican GP this past week. The Mercedes W14 has significantly improved after Lewis Hamilton finished just 13s behind the race leader Max Verstappen. Despite the enhanced performance from the drivers, Toto Wolff is not sure of the team’s prospects at the Brazilian GP.

Mercedes’ drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finished an impressive P1 and P2, respectively, at the 2022 Brazilian GP. Despite a tricky W13 last year, the drivers still managed to score this feat of a result at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace circuit. Toto Wolff talked about the upsides of the W14 this year following the previous two GPs.

The boss added that the car is a bit less tricky and provides more downforce to the drivers. Regardless, Toto Wolff talked about Lewis’ complaints over the car and added how the car is still so difficult to drive. So it is necessary to go in the right direction for the next year, according to the Austrian boss.

I think we’ve seen that it is providing more driveability, The car is a little bit less tricky. Still, the genes are there, Lewis said to me [in Mexico] ‘she’s still so difficult to drive although she’s faster’, so I think for us it was important to see whether directionally we were going in the right directions for next year.

Ahead of the Brazilian GP, Toto Wolff confessed that insufficient data exists to make a bold assumption about the race results. Subsequently, He claimed that the team seems to be on the ‘right path’ because of the updates to the mediocre W14 this year.

There is not enough data to make that solid assumption, so I don't know. Both feet on the ground and let's see where we are at Interlagos. We seem to be on the right path. So hopefully that can now be a stepping stone.

George Russell comments over the Brazilian weekend

George Russell commented ahead of the uncertain Brazilian weekend. The winner last time around added that he saw no reason why the Interlagos would not favor the upgraded W14 this year. The Briton added that the car had enough pace and performance to score a potential victory on paper.

Despite the positives, Russell was mindful of the weather conditions at the Interlagos. He claimed that the weather would be a hindrance because of the uncertainty of weather around the track. The 25-year-old also discussed the ‘tight competition’ with Ferrari and displayed confidence over the weekend.

All eyes are set on the Silver Arrows as they show upgrading performance after every race weekend. The runner-up battle in the Drivers’ championship between Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez will surely be the fan-favorite battle at the Interlagos this week as there could be serious consequences of bad results for both drivers.
