Mercedes have struggled ever since the new F1 regulations came into force in 2022. The Silver Arrows lost out massively to arch-rival Red Bull as the Milton-Keynes team continues to dominate the sport. The German team will be bringing major updates over the course of the 2023 F1 season. Team Principal Toto Wolff expressed his faith in the team to recover from its current struggles.

The 51-year-old mentioned the need for the Silver Arrows to develop at a faster rate than Red Bull Racing. In a bid to ensure that Mercedes could once again compete for race victories. Toto Wolff said, “We understand the knowledge that we need to recover. We need to have a steeper development curve than Red Bull and fundamentally, we want to compete for race wins. They are setting the benchmark now.”

The Mercedes team boss admitted that the team must pool in its understanding of the car for its next jump in the development cycle. He stated, “We need to consolidate our understanding and hopefully over the next few races we can make another step.” Toto Wolff believed this path should be maintained clearly without deviations. Wolff said, “It’s also important to keep on track and not oscillate too much between exuberance and depression.”

Lastly, Toto Wolff wanted his team to have faith in its capabilities and to maintain a logical path. This would allow the team to provide a decent car to Lewis Hamilton and George Russell capable of racing at the front. He concluded, “to stay rational and believe in our trajectory, believe in the capability of the team. There will be setbacks but there will also be upgrades and plenty of work that will help us get closer to the front.”

Thus, Toto Wolff is adamant that Mercedes have seen progress during the early 2023 F1 season. The 51-year-old believes the Silver Arrows can turn things around this season as the team works extensively on upgrades. Wolff trusts his team to provide positive results over the course of this season. However only time will tell if Toto’s target of getting back to the front comes true in 2023.
