It has been over a month since it was revealed that Lewis Hamilton would be parting ways with Mercedes. This left Toto Wolff in a difficult situation to replace an outgoing world champion and the time for announcing the replacement is nearing day-by-day. The Austrian has revealed a timeline for the announcement of the Brit’s replacement.
The paddock has been filled with rumors of who will take on the 2025 seat at the Silver Arrows. Moreover, one part of the paddock states that Max Verstappen could be moving to Brackley. Meanwhile, the other section states that Fernando Alonso is the perfect prospect for replacing the Englishman. Subsequently, amid all the rumors Toto Wolff took the stage recently and explained the proposed timeline to decide who will partner George Russell at Mercedes.
Wolff was asked a question about when he would finalize who would be in the second seat in the Mercedes. While answering the question, the Austrian stated:
I think we are going to wait. We are going to wait. We have a few interesting options. And the more we are able to assess how the season pans out, young drivers versus slightly older ones, that's not going to be a decision which we want to take in the next few weeks. It's rather a few months, depending on where it goes.Toto Wolff said as reported by PitDebrief
The 52-year-old asserted that the team is going to wait for a while before making a decision. Subsequently, the team could be waiting for the shenanigans going on at Red Bull to clarify. So if they have an opportunity to knab Max Verstappen from the clutches of Red Bull and bring him over to Brackley. Moreover, the team will wait for a few months and assess all the options before making a final decision.
Will Toto Wolff be able to lure Max Verstappen away from Red Bull?
The current state of affairs in Milton Keynes has raised questions about whether the Dutchman would stay with the reigning champions in the foreseeable future. Despite being contracted until 2028, Verstappen could line up a move to Mercedes if things stay the same. However, Wolff has presented his views on the same in a recent media interaction.

While addressing the question of whether Verstappen would join the Silver Arrows, Wolff stated:
A driver will always try to be in the fastest car that gives you the best chances of winning races and championships. That's where Max is at the moment.Toto Wolff told SkySports
The Austrian seemed certain that Verstappen wouldn’t be leaving the dominant bulls any time soon. Furthermore, he explained that it’s a natural tendency that any driver would like to be in the fastest car, and currently, Mercedes are not the fastest on the F1 grid.
Despite all this, fans worldwide would be keen on knowing who will take up the seat at Mercedes, especially considering how highly it is contested. Moreover, Wolff and the team will be revealing the driver who will be repping the German outfit next season in the following months.
