The W14 for Mercedes this year revealed a major weak spot of the Silverstone-based team’s development for the car. However, the team , under the guidance of Toto Wolff, have showcased optimism for the next season. They ended the 2023 season of Formula 1 on an optimistic note, and are now hard at work to develop the highly talked W15 of the next season.
The Austrian boss talked about the failure of the W14 in this season as the car included an older concept in the car. Wolff blatantly talked about how the car simply ‘didn’t work’ and the explanation was through simple physics and not mystics. Toto Wolff revealed that the W15 for the next year will resonate more with the other cars on the grid and will be more conventional.
I think we were bold and courageous to embark on the road with such a car, That was a different concept that nobody else had had before and it didn’t work. I think it’s as simple as that. It’s physics and not mystics. Next year’s car is going to be more conventional in what you would expect from a Formula 1 car, but there are a few interesting details that we have not seen on other cars yet.
Toto Wolff said, as reported by Planetf1.com.

Toto Wolff also talked about the learnings from this year for the team, however the boss was more keen to look ahead for a better season. The 51-year-old also exclaimed that he would’ve wished for competing for the world championship but that wasn’t the case. Hence, Wolff insisted that he was looking forward to the next season.
Every year that is not easy is part of a learning curve that makes you better afterwards, I would have wished we would have competed for the World Championship but that wasn’t the case. So we are looking forward to next year.
Toto Wolff claimed that they were learning the most from the losses
Although the team did not score any victory in the 2023 season, Wolff was still hopeful of great learning from the season. The Austrian recalled the eight championships for the team from Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. He commented that it got tougher for the team to manage the victories after eight consecutive championship for Mercedes.

In addition to this, Wolff added that the losing days for Mercedes were the days to be regretted by their competition. The reason for this was that the team was learning the most from the losses and were building character and putting stones in place to potentially put forth foundation for the coming generation to help return the team back to their winning ways.
Regardless of the claims, Merecedes needs to desperately work on their car and form as the season of 2023 was a highly inconsistent season for the team. Additionally, Lewis Hamilton has also showcased optimism over the development for the W15 for the next season and aims at returning to the grid and scoring victories like in the good old days.
