It has been a month since it was revealed that Lewis Hamilton would be parting ways with Mercedes after the end of the 2024 season. This announcement left Toto Wolff in a tough position as he had to find the perfect replacement sooner than expected for the former champion. Due to the current internal power struggles within Red Bull, Wolff may be able to knab the Max Verstappen from the clutches of the Austrian giant.

The reigning champions appear to be in shambles as their chief Christian Horner has been tangled up in a feud for the past weeks. Moreover, Jos Verstappen has publicly spoken up against Horner in multiple instances. Now, the Austrian has entered the scene and has declared that Mercedes welcomes the Dutchman with open arms.

I would love to have him [Verstappen]. But first we need to sort out our car. We owe it to our drivers George and Lewis to improve the car and give them equipment that is good before dreaming about the future next year.
Toto Wolff told Sky Sports.

Wolff elaborated that he would love to have the triple champion in his team to replace an outgoing world champion. Previously, Wolff was spotted with Verstappen’s father at the Bahrain GP which spooled up the rumor mill. Now, even the Austrian has publicly stated that he is ready to take Verstappen in the team. Subsequently, this has increased the pressure on Red Bull to solve the issue.

Will Max Verstappen leave Red Bull in favor of Mercedes?

With the current back-and-forth going between Milton Keynes and Red Bull, Verstappen’s future at Red Bull seems to be dwindling. However, the Mercedes team principal interprets the situation differently. He finds it hard to see Versatappen leaving such a dominant car in favor of Mercedes.

A driver will always try to be in the fastest car that gives you the best chances of winning races and championships. That's where Max is at the moment.
Toto Wolff said.

Wolff seems certain that the Dutchman will be with Red Bull even after the allegations the team is facing. Moreover, the Austrian explained that there is a natural tendency for every driver to be in the best team and Verstappen would not leave the team with whom he has won several world championships this easily.

Apart from this, the paddock will be centred on who will fill the void left by the Englishman at the Silver Arrows. Despite, Verstappen looking as the best candidate, the silly season remains yet to unfold.
