Lewis Hamilton qualified on the pole position for the Hungarian GP. The British driver claimed his first pole since 2021 after defeating arch-rival Max Verstappen by just 0.003 seconds. However, the 7-time world champion had a miserable start to the race as he lost multiple places on the first lap. The Mercedes driver was forced down the order.

Hamilton started on the pole alongside Verstappen on the front row. Unfortunately, as the five red lights were out, it was the Red Bull that had the advantage. This allowed the Dutch driver to overtake Lewis Hamilton in Turn 1. The Mercedes driver then felt the pressure from McLaren’s Lando Norris, who was on a charge to claim second place.

Things got from bad to worse for Lewis Hamilton. The 7-time world champion fell out of the podium positions by the end of the first lap, with the second McLaren of Oscar Piastri getting past the Silver Arrows as well. Subsequently, Hamilton was in P4 by the time he crossed the line at the end of Lap 1 despite a staggering performance in Qualifying the day before the Grand Prix.

Fans on Twitter shared their views straightaway. One fan was convinced it was all over for Hamilton after losing multiple positions on the first lap. The fan said, “Lulu is finished.” While another user called out the 7-time world champion for the disappointing start. The fan stated, “Pathetic from Lewis.” One fan took a dig at the 38-year-old and wrote, “Crymilton.”

On the other hand, many fans were not surprised to see Hamilton failing to defend from Verstappen. One fan replied, “Normal order is resumed….sorry Hamilton fans.” However, one user claimed that perhaps Daniel Ricciardo would soon replace the 7-time world champion after this race.

The user commented, “Danny ric to replace hamilton at Mercedes.” Another fan joked about how the Briton lost the lead within a few seconds of the race start. The fan stated, “My man lasted all but 5 seconds.”

Thus, Lewis Hamilton had a nightmare start to the Hungarian GP. The 7-time world champion proved no match to championship leader Max Verstappen or even the two McLaren drivers. Certainly, this comes as a massive blow to the Silver Arrows who hoped to fight for their first race win of this season. Though, Hamilton continued to push to bounce back.
