Aston Martin was the talk of the town during the pre-season testing. Their pace and good long run startled their rivals. The buzz is that they might be one of the top teams this season. Fernando Alonso has shared his thoughts about the team’s performance. He added extra spice stating Aston Martin is slightly faster than Ferrari.
This is a bold statement from the driver. However, at the moment, they look very strong. They quite threaten the top teams like Ferrari and Mercedes. This is exactly what Fernando Alonso would have wished for, considering his move from Alpine to Aston Martin. Things are looking up for the Spaniard.
Fernando Alonso was caught on a video stating, “On the last test day, for example, we did a race simulation. Then we did 57 laps, the same thing we are going to do this week in Bahrain. We put fuel in for those 57 laps and did the full race with the full set-up, even changing tyres. At the same time, Ferrari was doing the same programme as us with the same fuel for the race, same stops, and we were slightly faster.” Charles Leclerc, the Ferrari driver, had already complained that the car did not suit his style.

Fernando Alonso stole the show during Aston Martin’s pre-season testing
Ted Kravitz from Sky Sports F1 mentioned he is certain that Aston Martin is quicker than Mercedes. This is a piece of concerning news for the Silver Arrows. “That’s to do with Fernando Alonso’s race run. Aston Martin has Red Bull worried from day one, Adrian Newey mentioned them in the teams that he’s concerned about. The car is essentially good and has some nice ideas.”
There is a lot of positivity around Aston Martin, and Fernando Alonso has been glowing. Despite all this, the two-time world champion confessed that the team misses Lance Stroll. The Canadian sustained a wrist injury during a bicycle accident and sat out pre-season testing. Alonso feels that the team missed out on Stroll’s feedback.
However, Mike Krack, Aston Martin team boss, played it low. He stated that it is difficult to make proper judgments based on pre-season testing. He might not be wrong there. The teams do not show their true performance during the test, they aim to gather data and focus on their reliability and pace. The pre-season testing can be deceiving. There are just a few days left before the season officially begins. There is a lot of excitement going around, as it stands, it will be an unpredictable season. The truth behind Fernando Alonso’s bold statement will soon be revealed.
