“We have some unfinished,” Max Verstappen determine to overcome the curse of Baku

Max Verstappen has mastered most of the circuits but Baku city circuit has definitely not been one of them. We have seen Charles Leclerc haunted by the curse of Monaco, it’s along those same lines. The Dutchman has had four starts on this tricky circuit and has only been able to see the checkered flag on only one occasion, back in 2019 where he was able to finish 4th. It’s one of those circuits which have not been his hunting ground.

Azerbaijan GP has always one of those Grand Prixs which springs up with a surprise because of the layout of the circuit. We saw the joint most number of Red flags in a qualifying with as many as 4 shown due to drivers crashing into the barriers. But the most shocking event during last year’s Grand Prix was that both championship protagonists, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen failed to score points despite qualifying P2 and P3 respectively.

Max Verstappen, in particular, looked comfortable in the lead but lost control of the car crashing heavily into the barriers on the pit straight. That was a bizarre accident as his left rear tyre dramatically failed costing him the win. Fortunately, for Red Bull, Max Verstappen was able to walk away unscathed from that accident. Max Verstappen looks to put behind that misery this year around.

The reigning world champion has his eyes set on this weekend with as he looks to make amends. In the build up to the weekend, he has said, “I’m looking forward to returning to Baku, we have some unfinished business there after last year.”

“It’s a tricky track with big braking zones and a tight run-off, finding the best set-up for the car will be difficult in terms of making sure we get the correct wing level.”

“It will also be interesting to see if we can make our one-lap performance better for qualifying as we’ve been lacking a little,” as reported by gpfans.

It’ll be important for Red Bull to find the right balance for Max Verstappen’s RB-18 because any mistake on this ultra tricky street circuit in Baku can prove to be fatal in the short an long run. But, the signs are positive as far Max Verstappen’s approach is concerned.
