”We push him and he pushes us,” Christian Horner explains Max Verstappen’s dynamic relationship with Red Bull

Max Verstappen and Christian Horner
Max Verstappen registered his third win of the season and the second one on the trot which saw Charles Leclerc’s lead at the top of the driver’s standings cut down to 19 points. But the start to the weekend had all the Red Bull fans worried with the reliability issues of the RB-18. The reigning world champion was not able to go out on track until very late in FP2 and when he was able to, he was forced to retire out of the session due to a hydraulic issue.
It’s not the first time that we have seen Red Bull struggling find the right balance between pace and reliability. It all started off in the first race of the season in Bahrain which ended up with both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez retire from the race due to fuel pump issue. Things got back on track with Max Verstappen winning in Jeddah and Sergio Perez securing pole during the same weekend.
When we all thought Red Bull will pick up pace from that point on, Max Verstappen had to retire out of the Australian GP when he looked to have secured a podium finish. This has definitely been a cause of concern for the world champion who was critical of it yet again despite of winning the inaugural Miami GP.

Max Verstappen pushes Red Bull to do better and vice versa, according to Christian Horner

This irritation of Max Verstappen was confirmed by his father, Jos Verstappen, who said, “Problems with the car on Friday meant he got very little practice and you need that time to adjust the car, especially on a new street circuit.”
“I could understand why he was a bit irritable.”
But Christian Horner understands the mentality of the world champion. Red Bull team Principal, despite Max’s criticism, said, ”We push him and he pushes us like a dynamic team,” as reported by gpblog.
We all are well aware how competitive Max Verstappen is and that’s how world champions are made. Therefore, it becomes imperative for Christian Horner and Red Bull to cater to his needs.
