There has been a lot going around F1 ever since Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement and Fernando Alonso made a “drastic” decision to switch teams for the next season, and the FIA hasn’t made any statement yet. While it seems almost inevitable to catch-up with all the events, it is extremely necessary to do in order to understand even a bit of the entire situation.

Contracts are an essential part of the teams and the drivers, and there is a lot of questions around the contracts of a lot of drivers in the sport as of now, which all began after Vettel announced his retirement.

Post his announcement, Alonso decided to take his seat at Aston Martin next year after there were issues with the Alpine contract, and in turn, Alpine soon announced the F2 Champion Oscar Piastri would be the one to replace him. But not later enough, Piastri made an online statement stating that there had been no contract signings between him and the team, and that he would not be racing for them in 2023. This was weird as he is associated with the team.

Post this, there were reports stating Piastri taking Daniel Ricciardo’s place at McLaren next year, which would mean that McLaren would have to terminate Ricciardo’s contract, which is valid until the end of the 2023 season. In the midst of all this, the President of FIA made a statement regarding the contracts.
