“We’re not giving up in any way this season”: Lando Norris targets fourth place finish for McLaren in 2022
Lando Norris
In the previous season of the Formula 1 World Championship, McLaren had witnessed a huge upheaval in their performance as the Woking-based outfit challenged Scuderia Ferrari for the third spot in the Constructors’ Championship. But they could not keep their purple patch alive in 2022 as this current season has not gone too well for them.
While they did have some scattered incidents where both Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo performed well, with a podium finish for Lando Norris in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, McLaren’s 2022 season has mostly been filled with a slew of poor results due to their slow car. But in the words of Norris, the British team is not going to simply write off their 2022 campaign and will try to improve to the best of their abilities in order to solidify their position in the World Championship standings at the fourth spot.

Lando Norris says McLaren has to put in more work to improve in 2022
McLaren’s fourth spot is being challenged more and more with every race that is held in the 2022 season due to the increasingly reliable performance of its rival teams Alpine and even Alfa Romeo. While Alpine’s pace seems to be going really good, yielding in the P2 Quali finish for Fernando Alonso in the Canadian Grand Prix, Alfa Romeo’s Guanyu Zhou is also giving his teammate Valtteri Bottas the support that the Finn needs to get their team above McLaren Racing in the Championship standings.
With the pressure to perform rising like mercury levels, Lando Norris has stated McLaren’s decision to not give up on their 2022 campaign yet. He said, “It’s already tough now, but there are still things we can optimise and change around and play with on the car.
So, it’s not like we’ve given up in any way… There are still things we’re going to be able to bring. It’s just nothing that’s going to change the whole car, you know.”
The young racer who is yet to win his first Grand Prix in F1 after joining McLaren in 2019, has reinstated that his team has not abandoned the idea of improving in 2022 to focus on 2023 yet. In his words, “We’re not giving up in any way this season. We want to still remain in 4th in the constructors. We, therefore, still need to keep working on this year a huge amount.”
