“We’ve got more coming,” Mercedes fire warning to Ferrari and Red Bull

Mercedes has been doing wonders in the last few race weeks. They have managed 6 consecutive podiums with a double in the last two races. Although the credits for the podiums and points could be given to the bad luck on the top order, Hungry was different from the rest of the races. Andrew Shovlin, Mercedes’ trackside engineer was pretty pleased by the performance the team brought up in Hungry.

Mercedes struggling since the start of 2022 was working hard to cover the ruins in their car. After a great fight last season, the British-originated team is nowhere to be found on the top step of the podium. They even struggled to keep up with the pace from the top and were somewhere deep in the mid-field. But the last few weeks proved out to be a sweet fruit for the Mercedes driver and garage with back-to-back podiums.

Not only the trophies filling their cabinet it’s the pace that has largely come down between the Silver Arrows and the top two teams. Andrew Shovlin saw the pace difference between the teams and called Hungry the most satisfying race of the season.

“This last [double podium] was particularly satisfying because we weren’t relying on the misfortune of anyone dropping out with a reliability problem,” said Shovlin.

“The car pace was also very good, and it is always nice to have a good race before you go into that period of holiday,” said Andrew.

Andrew fires a warning for the top teams after witnessing the pace they had in Hungry. But he wasn’t completely convinced with it, he now hopes to get better at it and get back into the winning ways. With new upgrade plans for Spa, it shouldn’t be a shocker for the rest of the teams to see Mercedes at the top again.

“Well, we’ve got more coming. We are trying to bring some performance to Spa that will hopefully close that gap, we haven’t got far to go now. But we’ll keep developing the car for a little while now,” said Shovlin

Mercedes will be targeting second place with not much difference in the points gap. Ferrari with such a great car is struggling internally and has more or less lost to Red Bull but now also has trouble with Mercedes coming behind them. The points to Ferrari are just 30 but to Red Bull is 130 so it won’t be possible for the Silver Arrows to target the top spot but will hit for it in the 2023 season.
