What happens when F1 teams take World Champion shirts to the race but lose the title?

Fernando Alonso

With there being a solid chance of Max Verstappen winning his second world title in F1’s upcoming Singapore GP, it is probable that the team must have printed and would carry “Max Verstappen 2022 World Champion “ T-shirts with them as a precaution. Whenever a driver wins the title, the team brings out these shirts and distributes them to the team members. Although you may be wondering what must be happening to the rival team who printed the same type of shirts.

During the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP weekend, both Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen were level on points. This meant that both the drivers had an equal chance to win the drivers title. It was obvious that both Mercedes and Red Bull had gotten their WDC shirts to the race and only Max and his team got to use the shirts as they won the race and the F1 drivers championship. This meant that the Lewis Hamilton 8 time WDC shirts had to be packed and sent back to the factory in Brackley.

Back at their home base in Brackley, the shirts will be lying around in a dark corner where not many people will be visiting. They represent a testament to what could have been had they won the title. There are still boxes of Alonso 2010 and 2012 WDC shirts lying around somewhere in Maranello. One of which was leaked to the public a while back and has opened up a lot of memories. It is very sad to know that there’s something that had been hidden away from the public as it is frankly embarrassing.

This was the shirt that the team would have worm had he won the 2010 drivers title. Unfortunately this was not the case and Sebastian Vettel got the chance to wear his as he earned his maiden F1 title. Although in USA, for championship games they print both teams shirts hats and then they ship the losers team gear to 3rd world countries which is a much better alternative and all the teams should follow suit in doing the same.

These topics can easily upset a driver and the team and are big downers which is why the teams decide to keep these type of shirts in a place where no one goes. Although fans will always be eager and ready to start some banter if they see one wearing that in public. Recently Fernando Alonso’s 2010 WDC was a hot topic as a photo of his shirt got leaked. Which is we got to lay our hand over this photo. Do you think Max Verstappen will win the title in Singapore?
