The Race of the Champions took place during the last weekend of January, 2023, and it served up the exact amount of entertainment that the fans were craving because of the long season break in Formula 1. The ROC saw participants from various motorsports franchises, F1 included. This year’s installment saw Mick Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel team up to fight for Germany while Mika Hakkinen and Valtteri Bottas were present as racers for Finland. Also present was former British racer David Coulthard.
Now, interestingly, David Coulthard and Mika Hakkinen had been teammates for McLaren at one point in time. The two were quite successful at their game with Hakkinen winning two World Championship titles in 1998 and 1999. As they reunited ahead of the Race of the Champions 2023 edition, they put up a short video showing the fun time they had. In it, fans spoted David Coulthard interrupting Hakkinen’s monologues time and time again as the Briton asks, “Is he still talking? He always talks and talks!”
The friendship between Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard reminded fans of the late 90s when both the racers were dominating the tracks. Thus, the Twitterati posted wholesome comments on the video saying the two of them deserve their own comedy show one day.

As David Coulthard and Mika Hakkinen arrived at the ROC hosting country Sweden at night, the two started with their jokes on the spot. Hakkinen chimed in, “Where’s the sunshine?” And David Coulthard said,”Yeah, who turned off the lights?” And then the laughing fest started. Here is what the fans had to say about the exchange between the two F1 greats–
In the upcoming 2023 season, German racers Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher, who both took part in the ROC, will not be seen. While Vettel has retired from F1 after 15 years in the sport, Schumacher could not find a prospectiveseat at any of the teams after being turned down by Haas. Mika Hakkinen commented only a few days ago that Schumacher will surely return on regular racing in F1 in the near future. Now, it remains to be seen when that happens.
