Williams Racing recently parted ways with Jos Capito who was leading the team for three years. With the upcoming car launch and pre season testing in February, fans and critics were wondering as to who will be the team’s new leader. Thankfully, those concerns have come to an end as the Grove based squad finally announced their team principal for the 2023 F1 season. 

James Vowles has been a significant part of Mercedes all throughout their turbo hybrid era. Having contributed to the team’s success, Vowels has impressed many during his ongoing career in the pinnacle of motorsport. He worked closely with Toto Wolff and was one of the most important members of the team. The next chapter in his career will now lie with Williams F1 as he aims to lift the team up.

In a statement, James stated that heading a F1 operation like this would be a “huge honour.” Having left Mercedes after working with them for more than a decade, it will be interesting to see how he handles the situation at Williams. His ties will surely remain with the Brackley based squad as Mercedes AMG F1 is still the team’s engine supplier.

James Vowles is famously known for being the motorsport strategy director at Mercedes. Every F1 fan is aware of the term “Valtteri, it’s James” which was used a lot by Vowles when he wanted Bottas to let Lewis by during the race. With his new home at Williams, fans and critics will be curious to see how the newly appointed team principal copes up with the pressure of leading an F1 team.
